Our Journey
It all started during an RFID seminar in 2013, when our two founders met an Austrian document expert. Together they sat down and bore the idea of Doculus Lumus®: a handy, robust document checking device perfectly tailored to the needs of Frontline police officers.
Doc = Document | Ocolus = Eyes | Lumus = Light
They talked to international document experts and listened to what they really needed and wanted to have in their ideal mobile checking device. After 2 years of developing and testing, the first serial production batch was ready for sale.
Starting out from our office in Austria in 2015, we exported to our neighboring countries first and proceeded to build a strong partner network across the continent. Within the next years, police officers all over Europe were using Doculus Lumus® for document controls and training. In the meantime, we successfully patented our electronical control in the EU and US.
But the rest of the world was also interested to get their hands on Doculus Lumus®! With partners now in South-East Asia, the Middle East, regions of Africa, North and South America we have sold our devices to the most remote locations: From the desert in Oman, to the paradise island of Tahiti.
We constantly developed Doculus Lumus® further, introduced new colours, new features and successfully obtained our second patent on the automatic switch between energy sources while operating the device.
The main aspect of Doculus Lumus® has stayed the same since the idea was born 10 years ago – providing a high quality, long-lasting tool with best illumination to support our frontline police officers.
How will we ensure that in the future? With your cooperation, dear reader!
If you have a wish, need, feedback or recommendation, please reach out to us. We look forward to discussing and sparring with you to make sure our products continue to be aligned with the actual needs of our users.
Thank you for all your support over the years!

Sustainability Strategy
Recyclable packaging
The packaging material of Doculus Lumus® is made of recyclable material such as cardboard and paper. We avoid throwaway plastic at all costs.
Reusable shipping materials
Our shipping material consists of recyclable materials (cardboard) and is reused as long as the material provides sufficient protection for the orders we ship. This also applies to the filling material.

Robustness
Doculus Lumus® has a 2-year guarantee. The lifespan is 6 years - tendency increasing! Almost all initial devices sold in 2014 and 2015 are still in operation. This is our contribution to global waste prevention, as we have a much longer lifespan than other electronic devices.
Extended operating time
Doculus Lumus® is powered by 2 AAA batteries as standard, which are sufficient for about 2 months of operation in the field. In addition, we offer other energy sources through rechargeable batteries and an integrated Li-Ion battery for a sustainable alternative.
Refreshment Service
After the warranty period has expired, we offer a Refreshment Service. This service and the good care of your Doculus Lumus® ensure that the device remains in excellent condition for years without having to replace it with a new one.
Local production
Doculus Lumus® is developed and manufactured within a 5 km radius in Graz, Austria, where we are based.
Local injection moulding
Injection moulding and logo printing are conducted by a series manufacturer within a 5 km radius in Graz, Austria, where we are located.
Made in Austria
More than 80% of the value creation of Doculus Lumus® happens in Austria. This is how we keep the supply chain physically short and the CO2 emissions during production low.
